DIY Body Wash

We LOVE making our own hygiene products! Whether it be toothpaste, face masks, scrubs, serums, or detergents, DIY’s save us: from exposing chemicals to our home, money, time, and waste!

Building blocks for your body wash masterpiece:
• 1-1.5 bars of palm-oil free & package-free soap
• 1/3 cup of maple syrup. Find me in the bulk section! Don’t forget to bring a reusable container to put me in!
• 2 tbsp. oil: almond, olive, jojoba, grapeseed, or sesame. Find me in the bulk section or in a recyclable glass bottle!
• 3 tbsp. coconut oil. Find me in a recyclable glass bottle!
• Optional: 15 drops of your favorite organic essential oil. Find me in glass containers at the majority of stores. Please research to find a sustainable option! Note** We tend to opt out of using essential oils due to the waste they create. We recommend growing your own plants, dehydrating them with the sun, and infusing your recipes with the dried matter.
Instructions
  1. Liquify the soap bar! Cut the bar into pieces and put it in the mason jar. Boil 3 3/4 cups of water and add to the mason jar. Mix until all pieces are gone.
  2. Liquify the coconut oil. Place in a mason jar, run the jar under hot water until oil liquifies. Mix in with the soap.
  3. Add in the rest of the ingredients! Mix together.
  4. Store in a 32 oz mason jar for up to 6 months. Refrigerate for a longer shelf life!
  5. Use 3 tbsp. per shower.
Notes
  1. Why maples syrup? It contains an abundance of vitamins including vitamins A and B, a large number of antioxidants as well as anti-bacterial properties.
  2. Why palm-oil free? Check out an article we wrote discussing the externalities of palm oil here.
  3. Make sure to keep your showers short to conserve water! (:
